Aims

  • To raise awareness about issues of inclusion for Disabled Children in local play settings and the benefits of inclusive play
  • To introduce the principles and practice of good inclusive play, and demonstrate its practical application.

Learning Outcomes

  • To explore disability as an equalities issue
  • To develop an overall understanding of policy statements and how they affect playwork practice
  • To identify essential points for inclusion in an equal opportunities policy
  • To identify barriers to inclusion and examples of good practice in overcoming them
  • To know the legal requirements on play service providers that promote children’s well-being and inclusion
  • To identify health and safety requirements, including the provision of personal assistance for Disabled Children
  • To develop an understanding of the importance of planning for inclusive play, identifying practical examples to implement in the work place.

Target Audience

Anyone working with children aged between 5 & 15 years. The course can be adapted to early years workers.

Course Requirements

A 12.5 hour course delivered over three days or as five evening sessions. If delivered over three days, days 1 & 2 are delivered consecutively.

Endorsement or NVQ Accreditation

A NVQ Level 2 course accredited by SkillsActive and Playwork Partnerships. Provides some knowledge towards NVQ Level 2 in Playwork

Resources

Everyone Can Play course file purchased from Playwork Partnerships. Cost for these at the time of writing is £25 per student. Other recommended resources on display during the course.

Courses are delivered in a fun, participative way and can be adapted to engage different target audiences. Requirements for access, timing and training space will be specified in advance. The timing of courses can be flexible to meet the needs of learners.
