Aims

  • To provide an introduction to the principles and practice of Inclusive Play, raising awareness of the rights of Disabled children to access play and the need for Disabled and Non-Disabled Children to play together.
  • To motivate play and early years workers to provide an inclusive, playful environment that helps prepare Disabled and Non-Disabled Children for their shared futures.

Learning Outcomes

  • To reflect on attitudes towards disability
  • To explore the meaning of inclusive play and reflect on the need for all children to have a stimulating and challenging environment where they can play freely and develop an understanding of the world around them.
  • To developed an understanding of the play work principles
  • To learn a range of new games and how to make them inclusive
  • To practice creating inclusive activities for a variety of play settings

Target Audience

Play and Early Years workers and child minders. The course can be adapted to the needs of anyone who requires an introduction to the play work principles and practice of inclusive play.

Course Requirements

A one day (5 hour) course delivered by two trainers

Endorsement or NVQ Accreditation

Endorsed by Skillsactive at an Introductory Level. Offers a certificate of attendance.

Courses are delivered in a fun, participative way and can be adapted to engage different target audiences. Requirements for access, timing and training space will be specified in advance. The timing of courses can be flexible to meet the needs of learners.
