Short course on the Equality Act

Aims
To provide an introduction for play, childcare and youth service providers to their responsibilities under the Equality Act.

Learning Outcomes
To give an overview of the responsibilities on service providers to provide access for disabled people through meeting the requirements of the Equality Act.
To explore interpretations of the Act and how it applies to different play, childcare & youth service providers.
To explain the term ‘reasonable adjustment’ used in the Act and what this means in practice.
To identify the different types of barriers within work practice which may lead to discrimination

Target Audience
All play, childcare and youth service providers, including Managers. The course can be adapted for any service provider (not necessarily play related) e.g. social services, Health Authorities, Dentists.
NB This course does not cover the Equality Act in relation to Education

Number of Students
Minimum: 6
Maximum: 16

Course Requirements  
This course is delivered in a 3.5 hour session. It can be delivered as a morning, afternoon or twilight session.

No handouts provided. Recommendations given for downloadable resources from the Equality and Human Rights Commission website

Courses are delivered in a fun, participative way and can be adapted to engage different target audiences. Requirements for access, timing and training space will be specified in advance. The timing of courses can be flexible to meet the needs of learners.
