Alison John and Associates has undertaken many successful projects with clients in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Middle East.

Al-Khurafi Activity Kids Centre
We were approached early in 2005 by clients to design and deliver training in Kuwait. They had just built a new centre called Al-Khurafi Activity Kids Centre for Disabled Children—the first of its kind in the country. We worked with staff and volunteers on a number of occasions, supporting them in establishing the running of the centre and developing play activities.

Inspire in partnership with Alison John & Associates present Stepping into Play – a programme to raise parents/ carers’ awareness about the importance of play.

Stepping into Play is a fun, participatory and thought provoking programme that helps parents/carers understand: why play is important; how play can help build relationships; how to offer more play opportunities for their children and how to make low cost resources into high play value.

The Stepping into Play can be delivered by family support staff after they have taken part in the two day training the trainers’ course facilitated by Inspire. At the end of the course participants will receive a copy of the Stepping into Play training manual containing session plans, handouts and resources.

Better Play Partnership
Better Play, a partnership between Barnardo's and the Children's Play Council was a four year grant programme which distributed £10.8m of 'Lottery Good Causes' funding from the Big Lottery Fund to 225 Play Services across England. To mark the end of the programme a celebratory event was held on 5th July 2004; bringing together the funded projects, key stakeholders and various partners and people interested in 'Play'.

This was an inspiring speech which captivated the audience. Alison spoke of her experiences on Inclusive Play with passion and eloquence. There were many delegates who attended the event specifically to hear what Alison had to say and they were not disappointed. Alison gave an insight into the issues, barriers and solutions around Play being inclusive to all children.

Short Breaks and Out of School Inclusion, Gloucestershire County

Alison has worked closely with us to co-deliver our inclusion training programme for mainstream providers as part of the Gloucestershire Transforming Short Breaks Pathfinder project under the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme. She has been great to work with – committed to equality, grounded in reality, terrific fun, and a very skilled trainer. As one of our county music service staff wrote after her training session, ‘Ally is one of the most intelligent and inspiring people I’ve met’.

West Sussex County Council

The West Sussex County Council Early Childhood Service has worked with Alison John & Associates on several large scale events & have been impressed by their ability to tailor workshops and keynote speeches to the needs of both our service and practitioners across West Sussex. Workshops have been delivered by approachable facilitators and have been informative for our staff and helped practitioners move their practice forward.

Comments made by client organisations and course participants.

The training has supported Oxfordshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership, EYDCP, to identify ways forward to implementing our policy for inclusion.

The course objectives were met with fun, sensitivity and a little seriousness. (Participant)

We must make a conscious effort to concentrate on inclusion, as opposed to providing a Special Service. (Participant)

National Childminding Association of England & Wales

Ally has delivered training on Disability Equality to the National Childminding Association of England & Wales.

Her message of inclusion was delivered in unique style to an audience of childminders and EYDCP, Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership officers created an enormous effect.

Truro Conference on 3 March 2007

Alison was a fantastic speaker, really open, honest and very thought provoking.

Great having a speaker who was speaking from experience.

Alison was inspiring, made you think about issues, she didn’t rely on notes, made me look at practise and development for future. She was funny and articulate, made me feel very humble and aware of discrimination.

Alison’s talk was excellent, gave a true insight into how we see and label people with disabilities. It made you think. Also helpful when a speaker speaks from the heart.

Alison made me think about changing the nursery I work in.
